NEWS

NHS Alumnus Fred Williamson (NHS '60) is being published!
The Pumpkin Plant That Almost Ate Our School will be released in January 2009. Fred penned this lyrical children's book based on a true event from his years working at Sterck School. At the request of teacher, Nancy Weaver, Fred planted a single seed at the end of the school year. Ms. Weaver intended to show her class how a small seed could develop into something larger -- and it certainly did! After writing the book Fred showed his poetry to a deaf friend he had met through Sterck and illustrations soon followed. Fred hopes to make a donation to Penn State University in memory of Nancy Weaver with some of the proceeds.

NHS's own Marathon Man
Stephen Chopko, 2008 Graduate of NHS, achieves perfection -- 12 years of perfect attendance! See the News Journal article here.

Bridge-To-Employment

Newark High's Bridge-To-Employment (BTE) program is a special life-skills and academic achievement program for students facing difficult challenges.  Services are provided before, during and after school, as well as during the summer months.  But more importantly, BTE involvement has improved the academic performance of participants, and thus improved their chances of graduating from high school.  Please contact Ms. Parker-Henry at (302) 378-7251 if you are interested in becoming a BTE volunteer or mentor.
